This is the largest water conservancy project in the history of Shaanxi. In order to change this situation, Shaanxi launched the provincial "South-to-North Water Diversion" project survey in 1993. In July 2011, relevant departments approved the project proposal for the Han-Ji-Wei River project, and in December of the same year, the Shaanxi Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government held a mobilization meeting to start construction.
After more than ten years of hard work, the first phase of the Han-Jiwei diversion project was completed, realizing water access. The relevant person in charge of the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Water Resources said that the Hanjiang-Weihe River Diversion Project diverts water from the Han River in southern Shaanxi during the flood season to the Weihe River Basin in Guanzhong. It will not only promote the development of green industries in southern Shaanxi, but also change the situation of over-exploitation of groundwater and squeezing of ecological water in Guanzhong. conditions, achieve a balanced groundwater extraction and replenishment, prevent urban environmental geological disasters, and effectively ensure the development of the Guanzhong urban agglomeration. At the same time, the annual average water flow from the Wei River into the Yellow River can be increased by 600 million to 700 million cubic meters. Through water rights replacement, the northern Shaanxi National Energy and Chemical Industry Base can obtain more water intake indicators from the main stream of the Yellow River and ensure high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin.
Xi’an is the first city to benefit from the Han-Hanjiang-Weihe River Diversion Project. The water quality of the Han River water transferred from Sanhekou Reservoir this time is surface water Class II. This project is the first time humans have crossed the Qinling Mountains from the bottom, a great feat to divert water from the Han River in the Yangtze River Basin into the Yellow River Basin.
It is reported that as an important supplement to the national South-to-North Water Diversion Project, the first, second and third phases of the Han-Wei River Diversion Project will be completed to meet the needs of the public including Xi'an, Xianyang, Weinan and Yangling. The domestic and industrial water needs of 21 water-receiving objects, the total area of the water-receiving area is 14,000 square kilometers, and the beneficiary population is 14.11 million people. It can support the GDP of 1.1 trillion yuan in the water-receiving area and add 5 million people. Urban water.
