Recently, the world's largest and China's first large-scale trailing suction dredger using liquefied natural gas and diesel as a dual-fuel power system was built by CCCC Shanghai Shipping Bureau, a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company, as a general contractor by CCCC Dredging Technology Center, and by Zhenhua Heavy Industry. The "Xinhai Sturgeon" was successfully launched in Qidong, Jiangsu Province, filling the gap in domestic clean energy dredgers.
The trailing suction dredger is a dredging engineering ship. It is mainly responsible for channel dredging and maintenance. It is also a "big country's important weapon" for sand blowing and reclamation. The "Xinhai Sturgeon" has a mud tank with a maximum capacity of 17,000 cubic meters. It is currently the world's largest LNG-powered trailing suction dredger with a total length of 155.7 meters, a width of 32 meters, and a full load draft of 9.9 meters.
Ships can switch between using liquefied natural gas and diesel fuel as the power system at any time to achieve green, environmentally friendly and energy-saving effects. At the same time, the ship is also equipped with the most advanced and intelligent “one-click dredging” and “dredging and driving in one” systems in China, enabling a single person to complete driving and dredging operations for the first time in China.
The ship is expected to be officially delivered in September 2024. After delivery, it will be mainly used for dredging, reclamation and coastal maintenance projects in coastal ports and deep-water channels, helping to promote the development of domestic green and clean shipping.
